Pitt coach Jeff Capel says two good practices helped his team find its game again after three straight losses, and the Panthers responded with an 83-72 win over 16th-ranked Virginia Tech last night.
For only the second time in 80 college games, Xavier Johnson did not start for Pitt, but he came off the bench and scored 32 points. Ithiel Horton scored 15 and Au’Diese Toney added 14, while Justin Champagnie battled double-teams all night and finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

With Saturday’s scheduled makeup game against Florida State halted again by coronavirus concerns within the Seminoles’ program, Pitt will instead travel to Virginia to play the #14 Cavaliers. Virginia was supposed to play Louisville, but there are virus concerns for the Cardinals. Pitt and Virginia will tip off at 4 o’clock Saturday afternoon.
The Panthers have also announced that the postponed game at Georgia Tech has been rescheduled for 4 PM on February 14th.
