First responders were busy with a basement fire reported Wednesday evening in Cherry Hill Township.
Indiana County 911’s first call went out at 5:16 PM for Cherry Hill, Clymer, Commodore and Pine Township fire departments along with the RIG team and Citizens Ambulance for the call at a home at 2971 Route 553 in Penn Run. Indiana Fire Company Three would be called in to assist at 5:48 PM and Brush Valley would be called in from standby detail at 6:06 PM to assist on the scene. Coral Graceton fire department was called in for an air assist, along with Homer City and Spangler fire departments.
Cherry Hill Fire Chief Jody Rainey said that crews were on the scene for several hours. No one was home at the time, but when the homeowner arrived, a neighbor notified them about smoke coming from the basement of the house. The homeowner went inside and found the fire in the basement and called 911.
The fire is not believed to be suspicious, but state police fire marshals were called in to find the cause. Marshals will return to the scene today to complete their investigation. No injuries were reported.
