Earlier today, Governor Wolf released his 2021 budget address, which he says is meant to help make sure that people pay their fair share in Pennsylvania.
The address was delivered in a video recorded at the Governor’s residency in Harrisburg and he said that he wanted to help make sure that everyone pays their fair share, especially when it comes to state taxes. Wolf said that he felt that the way the income tax is levied hurts those who are not as well off as others.
He said that his budget plan would reduce property taxes for working class families making $84,000 or less in a year. He also touted an investment of more than $1.5 billion in education, including additional funding for special education and pre-k programs along with helping State System of Higher Education Schools, essentially doubling the investment in education that has been made through the last few years.
Another part of his plan would help businesses negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and pave the way to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. The plan does include some tax increases, including a proposed increase in state income taxes to 4.49 percent, and fees for state police that have been proposed before.
