REA Energy Cooperative has announced that someone is using their name in an identity theft scam.
According to a news release, REA has received several reports of cooperative members receiving a letter in the mail that looks like it came from the company, stating that there were changes to the member’s account and they need to call the number printed in the letter and provide some information like driver’s license or social security numbers.
Cooperative members are being advised that the letter is not from them, and while they do send mailers out from time to time, they will never ask for personal information. If an REA Customer does receive a letter like this, they are asked not call the number on the letter but to instead call REA at 724-349-4800 or 1-800-211-5667.
