Punxsutawney would normally be a busy place this morning as the community gets ready to celebrate Groundhog Day, but this year, the celebration has changed due to Covid-19.
The Groundhog Club Inner Circle has closed Gobbler’s Knob to the public for this year’s celebration. Only inner circle members and some members of the media are allowed on the grounds to cover the event. The event will be broadcast online through www.Groundhog.org or Punxsutawney Phil’s official Facebook Page and YouTube Channel starting at 6:30. The program will feature a “groundhog special” leading up to the official prognostication, which takes place around 7:30 this morning.
The celebration normally brings thousands of people to the small town in Jefferson County, and is seen as a financial boom for many businesses in the area.
