The district judge in Derry Township has announced he will retire in August.
District Judge Mark J. Bilik has announced his intention to retire from the district court. He was appointed to the post in 1991 by then Governor Robert Casey to fill the unexpired term of his predecessor, then won the election to that seat later that year. He was elected to his fifth term in 2015.
Bilik estimates that he has overseen over 100,000 cases and millions of dollars brought in for local government entities during his time on the bench.
County officials would be allowed to bring in a senior district court judge to take over for a few months between August and December 31st, when his term officially ends, but there are no official plans in place yet.
