A day after ranking two Pirates prospects in top 10 at second base, MLB Pipeline yesterday released its top third base prospects, and put Pirates’ third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes second behind Detroit’s top draft pick last year, Spencer Torkelson. However, Baseball America puts Hayes number one because they consider Torkelson a first baseman, not a third baseman. MLB Pipeline has Hayes as its choice for Rookie of the Year in the upcoming season.
This morning, MLB Pipeline lists O’Neil Cruz as the ninth best prospect at shortstop.
Earlier, MLB Pipeline rated High-A Pirates minor leaguer Mason Martin as the 10th best first base prospect, second baseman Nick Gonzalez as the second best prospect at that position, and second baseman Ji-Hwan Bae as ninth best.
