Pitt could not handle North Carolina’s superior size up front, falling to the Tar Heels, 75-65, for the Panthers second straight loss.
Armando Bacot scored 21 points and pulled down 10 rebounds as North Carolina grabbed 14 offensive boards overall. Pitt sophomore forward Abdoul Karim Coulibaly went to the bench with his third foul about three minutes into the second half, leaving the inside vulnerable to North Carolina’s big men.
Justin Champagnie led Pitt with 23 points, including four three-pointers, but he only shot the ball nine times, hitting seven of them
Coach Jeff Capel says the Panthers have to work harder to get the ball to Champagnie, and play smarter offense overall.
Pitt will return to action on Saturday night against 3-5 Notre Dame, which plays Virginia Tech tonight.
FOOTBALL
Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi yesterday hired former Bucknell defensive coordinator Ryan Manalac as the Panthers new linebackers coach. Manalac did not coach in 2020 because Bucknell’s season was canceled. Narduzzi previously worked with him at both Michigan State and Cincinnati.
