UPDATE: State police confirmed the crash was due to icy road conditions, saying the bus went off the road and hit an embankment before hitting a tree. While they did confirm there were minor injuries, they did not identify who was injured. Emergency crews have been on scene cleaning the wreck and transferring students to another bus so they can continue their commute to school. The bus driver was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
WHAT WE PREVIOUSLY REPORTED
The driver of a school bus and one of the students were injured this morning as a bus crashed on Chestnut Ridge Road.
Indiana County 911 reported that Black Lick and Blairsville fire departments, state police and Citizens Ambulance were dispatched to a location near 2895 Chestnut Ridge Road in Burrell Township at 8:31 this morning. Initial reports said that the bus slid off the road due to the icy conditions and collided with a tree. Both the driver and one of the elementary students on board suffered what seem to be minor injuries.
Five students were on the bus at the time of the crash, according to State Police. No other vehicles were involved and only minor injuries were reported.
As of right now, emergency crews are on the scene along with Smith Bus Company crews to help clean the scene up and check on the students and the driver.
