The Pirates have signed 29-year-old catcher Joe Hudson to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training. He’s played 18 games in his MLB career with the Mariners, Cardinals, and Angels, with a lifetime batting average of .167.
OTHER BASEBALL NEWS:
The MLB Players Association has shot down proposals for expanded playoffs and a universal designated hitter. Both were used during the shortened 2020 season. MLB used a 16-team playoff format this past season compared to 14 teams in years past.
Arizona officials are asking Major League Baseball to delay the start of spring training to allow the COVID-19 situation to improve in Maricopa County. MLB has reportedly told its teams to prepare for an on-time start to both spring training and the regular season.
