Mike Tomlin held his final news conference of the season yesterday, clearly frustrated with the Steelers loss to the Browns and promising there will be changes in the offseason. He just doesn’t know what those changes will be.
Tomlin says it will start with an appraisal of what went wrong after the Steelers started the season 11-0 and then lost four of their last five games.
With eighteen players about to become unrestricted free agents, Tomlin knows the roster will look different in 2021, but he says the early reviews of the disastrous end of another season shows the roster is not the only thing that needs to change.
The coach also said he knows nothing of rumors that General Manager Kevin Colbert is being courted by the Detroit Lions. A talk show host at Detroit radio station WXYT said yesterday that the Lions had offered Colbert the head of football operations job and that Colbert was close to accepting it. He worked for the Lions from 1990 to 1999 before coming to the Steelers.
Tomlin praised Ben Roethlisberger for his work to return this year from elbow surgery, while refusing to speculate on whether Big Ben or any particular player will be back in the fall.
