A buyer has been found for the VFW clubhouse and the Indian Springs Golf and Country Club, and some of the country club’s members are upset that they may not receive refunds for the 2020 memberships that went unused.
The golf course was closed for all of 2020 as the VFW and its membership explored options for the course, including the sale of the course to White Township. At a meeting on January 5th, representatives from the VFW at the state and federal level announced that the property, including the VFW meeting hall, was in the final phases of being sold for $600,000 to a private buyer, whose identity has not been released. In that same meeting, it was announced that the VFW would not refund those who purchased memberships for the 2020 season. This ran counter to what was said in letters to the membership back in July of 2020 from the local VFW Post leadership that membership payments would be refunded once the sale is completed.
The announcement about the refunds was a shock to many members, including Fred Hunter, who attended the meeting on Tuesday.
We talked with one of the VFW Trustee Larry Wade who represented the VFW on the national and state level and was one of the meeting leaders. He said that he and the two others leading the meeting were helping to restructure the post, not the golf course, which was a separate entity from the VFW.
Wade added that they are doing everything they can to keep VFW Post 1989 running as they continue to do a lot of good for the community.
We talked with Gina Ryen Force, who serves as the solicitor for VFW Post 1989 and the Indian Springs Golf and Country Club. While she said she could not release a lot of information, they are working towards a solution to the refund problem. The sale is expected to be finalized in February.
