Today is the day that members of the State House of Representatives are sworn in and today that will include two new representatives for Indiana County.
Brian Smith will now represent the 66th district of the State House of Representatives, which includes the northern half of Indiana County and all of Jefferson County. Smith lives in Punxsutawney, but was a graduate of Marion Center School District. Smith was the owner of Fastrak, Inc., a family-owned transportation company he opened in 2001, and would add Orion Logistics two years later. He is also co-owner of Abacus Housing, which provides rentals for the IUP Culinary Academy students.
Smith takes over for Cris Dush, who stepped down to become a PA senator. Dush’s swearing-in is also today.
Also being sworn in today is Jason Silvis, who won against Joe Petrarca in the 55th district election. The 55th covers parts of Indiana, Westmoreland, and Armstrong counties. Silvis graduated from Kiski Area High School and studied business at Penn State before moving to California to become a stuntman and stunt coordinator.
