The PIAA Board of Directors will meet today to consider modifying the 15-practice rule for winter sports teams before they can compete in a game. The new rule would require 10 practices, with all teams having to put in at least four practices before starting games.
The state shut down all sports until January 4, and barring an extension of the ban, teams would perhaps get a chance to get back to action sooner than January 8th under the new rules. Only one Indiana County teams has played this season. Penns Manor’s girls’ basketball team played and won two games on December 11th, before the shutdown began.
Yesterday, the WPIAL Board of Directors decided to open the playoffs to all teams, taking into consideration the unbalanced schedules that some teams will have to play. Teams will have to declare in early February, with the playoffs to start on February 27th.
