PENGUINS TO PLAY 56-GAME SCHEDULE

With the NHL and its players union having agreed to a 56-game schedule that starts on January 13^th, the Penguins will be ramping up voluntary workouts for the approach of training camp, which opens on January 3^rd.

Voluntary workouts began last week at the team’s practice site in Cranberry, and the team terminated player loan agreements for prospects Cam Lee and Drew O’Connor, enabling them to come home for camp. The defenseman Lee was playing in Slovakia and forward O’Connor was playing for a team in Norway.

Under the new agreement, the NHL has realigned the divisions, with all of the Canadian teams playing in one division and the Penguins playing in the East with the Bruins, Sabres, Devils, Isles, Rangers, Flyers and Capitals.  The NHL has not announced a schedule yet.

The league set the trade deadline for April 12^th and the end of the regular season will end on May 8^th.  The expansion draft to stock the new Seattle franchise will be on July 21^st.
