The National Hockey League and its players union reached a tentative deal on Friday to hold a season starting January 13th.
NHL commissioner Bill Daly confirmed both sides were on board with a 56-game season, with the executive boards yet to give formal approval to the deal. The League’s board of governors could vote on the plan soon, and the players association’s board was to meet last night to discuss the plan further.
Approval is also needed from health officials in five Canadian provinces that have teams in them before the NHL can go ahead with the season. It’s not known at this time if the teams will play in their home arenas or play in hub cities like they did in the playoffs, but both sides are expecting an all-divisional schedule.
