IUP announced on Friday that for two performance arts-based programs at the university, the show will go on.
The musical theater track of the Bachelor of the Arts Theatre program and the minor in dance program will continue to be open for enrollment by new and continuing students for the next academic year and beyond. The changes came as discussion continues about IUP’s NextGen academic restructuring plans along with shifts in faculty retrenchments. When IUP NextGen was originally announced in October, the programs were scheduled to close in fall of 2021, with students currently enrolled in the program allowed to finish the program and get their degree if they wanted to.
There are still several programs still slated for closure at the start of the 2021-2022 academic year, including interdisciplinary fine arts-dance arts, master of fine arts in art, master of art-art education, and master’s in art studio. Eighteen currently-enrolled students will be affected by these closures. IUP will work with these students on a case-by-case basis so they can meet their academic goals in a timely manner.
IUP said that as of December 11th, a total of 18 notices of retrenchment that were sent on October 30th were withdrawn due to voluntary retirements and other factors.
