As expected, Governor Tom Wolf shut down Pennsylvania interscholastic sports yesterday, saying he has “paused” it until January 4th. The order takes effect on Saturday, and includes all practices as well as games.
The winter sports seasons were scheduled to get underway today, so technically, a school could play a game if there was one scheduled. None of Indiana County’s schools have a game scheduled tonight.
According to PIAA guidelines approved Wednesday, teams which have already been practicing and have their required fifteen preseason workouts completed will still have to put in four more practices because Wolf’s order covers more than fourteen days, making the earliest start date for winter sports January 8th. Most teams will have to put in a few more practices before they can play a game.
