A sentence modification hearing is set for today for a man who pleaded no contest to several counts of criminal use of a communications facility that happened as he was imprisoned on a murder charge.
Charles Cook, 65, has been serving time in state prison after pleading no contest to five of seven counts of criminal use of a communications facility on October 16th while the other two counts were not prosecuted. He was sentenced to serve three to seven years in state prison for each count, with two counts running consecutively and the remaining counts running concurrently. The motion to modify the sentence was made on November 6th by Cook’s attorney, Aaron Ludwig.
The charges were filed in October of 2018 while Cook was in Indiana County Jail in the investigation into the death of Myrtle McGill. Police said Cook used the jail’s telephones to call his girlfriend and arrange drug deliveries. The verdict in this case came eight days after Cook was found not guilty of McGill’s death back in 1991.
