The Pennsylvania State Police charged Derek E. Colberg, 32, of Marion Center, PA at the scene of a three-vehicle crash in Clymer Borough this morning.
Colberg was lodged in the Indiana County Jail to await arraignment after being charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver and Driving while Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance. He was arraigned at 2:00 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Christopher S. Welch and was remanded to Indiana County Jail in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail.
Troopers from Troop A, Indiana Patrol Unit, responded to the crash at approximately 6:43 AM. The crash happened at the intersection of Franklin St. and 6th St. in Clymer Borough. One vehicle, a Mercury Grand Marquis operated by Colberg, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene. The other two vehicles, a pick-up truck and a sedan, were moderately damaged, but did not require towing. No injuries were reported.
During the on-scene investigation, a witness reported having observed Colberg exit the Grand Marquis and throw a black backpack near a telephone pole. Troopers found the backpack and conducted a consent search. They reported finding a metal safe containing eight containers of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine, 142 stamp bags of suspected heroin, two Alprazolam pills, four Ecstasy pills, one Gabapentin pill and an unidentified crushed pill.
Also inside the backpack, troopers say they found cash, three syringes, three glass smoking pipes, one plastic straw, one metal spoon, one plastic smoking pipe, one vape pen containing suspected THC, one bag of rubber bands, ten black and gold baggies and a digital scale.
Troopers also found Colberg to be under the influence of narcotics.
Colberg was then taken into custody without incident and transported to Indiana Regional Medical Center for a chemical test of blood. Following consultation with Indiana County District Attorney Robert F. Manzi, Jr., Colberg was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession with Intent to Use Drug Paraphernalia and summary violations of Careless Driving, Operation of Vehicle without Official Certificate of Inspection and Driving on Roadways Laned for Traffic.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 14 at 9:15 a.m.
