The Heritage Conference athletic directors and high school principals met Wednesday to address a range of subjects and reported a number of decisions, but they will likely meet next week to discuss more on winter sports.
According to conference president Jody Rainey, the following decisions were announced:
– Penns Manor and Marion Center were declared co-champions for football.
– An agreement with the West Pac was approved to continue the Appalachian Bowl and West Pac – Heritage crossover weekend for football in 2021.
– The conference learned that Bishop Carroll will be an independent football team and fill open dates in the West Pac football schedule beginning with the 2021 season, as it did in the Heritage Conference this past season. Bishop Carroll will be part of the crossover weekend but is not eligible to play for the Appalachian Bowl Championship.
– The Appalachian Track & Field Meet will be April 16 at Windber
– The Heritage Conference Cheer Competition has been cancelled. It will resume next year. The District 6 Cheer Competition is currently scheduled for January 9.
– The Heritage Conference basketball semifinals are scheduled for Monday, February 15 with a makeup date of Tuesday, February 16. The championship will be February 17 with makeup dates for the 18th, 19th and 20th.
– Due to COVID restrictions, the basketball championships will not be played at the KCAC this year. Also, as a conference there will not be section schedules. Each conference team will play each other conference team twice. In the semifinals, the fourth-place team will face the first-place team and the second-place team will face the third-place team. Winners will advance to the championship.
– Starting in 2021-2022, section realignment with the addition of Cambria Heights was decided. Instead of North and South, the conference will move to an East/West alignment. The East Section will be Northern Cambria, Cambria Heights, Penns Manor, Purchase line and Marion Center. The West Section will be West Shamokin, Homer-Center, United, Blairsville and Saltsburg.
The athletic directors are tentatively scheduled to meet next week on December 9 to discuss winter sports schedules and make up games created by the late start by the vast majority of Heritage Conference winter sports programs.
