The state department of Labor and Industry announced today that Indiana County’s unemployment rate went down nearly a full percentage point in the month of October.
The county’s unemployment rate for October is 6.9 percent, down eight tenths of a percentage point from September. That follows a trend reflected at the state and national levels. The statewide unemployment rate for October is 7.3 percent, down a percentage point from September. The national unemployment rate also went down one percent to 6.9 percent.
In the surrounding counties, Westmoreland County tied with Indiana County at 6.9 percent. Jefferson County had the lowest unemployment rate in our region at 6.7 percent, Clearfield County’s rate is 7.1 percent, Cambria County is at 7.4 percent. Armstrong County has the highest unemployment rate at 7.8 percent.
The lowest unemployment rate in the state was in Centre County at 4.4 percent, while the highest unemployment rate was in Philadelphia County at 10.7 percent.
Total non-farm jobs in the Indiana County area went up by 200 to 31,100 jobs. Super sectors that saw increases were the trade, transportation, and utilities super sector and the education and health services super sector.
