Indiana Borough Police hand delivered letters to Downtown Indiana Businesses on Monday about compliance with recent upgrades to the face covering requirements.
Those letters discuss the revisions to the face covering requirement made on November 18th that a face covering is required when people are inside and not with people from their own household, regardless of physical distancing. On the 23rd, Governor Tom Wolf issued a letter to the local law enforcement agencies asking that enforcement efforts be enhanced to include monitoring and penalties. Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl said that while the exact plan on how that will work in Indiana Borough is not yet finalized, the letter was the first step in the enhanced enforcement efforts.
In the letter, Schawl said that police will remain tactful with their approach, but the best thing to do to avoid a problematic situation would be to have businesses comply with the updated orders by requiring masks be worn indoors by employees and customers alike. The letter also stated that if assistance is needed by police in a case of non-compliance, the police are just a phone call away.
