Today marks the start of the holiday season in Indiana County, and kicking off the celebration is the first weekend of the annual “It’s a Wonderful Life” Festival, presented by First Commonwealth Bank.
The celebration begins today at noon where children will have the opportunity to meet and take home a special treat from Santa. He will be there until 5 p.m., and will be in the park again from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Additionally, the Indiana County Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Organization will host family-oriented activities in the park throughout the day.
Community businesses will be open as part of “Small Business Saturday”, with extended hours, where shoppers can earn Downtown Dollars that can be used like cash from Dec. 1 to Dec. 31.
Also on the itinerary is a matinee viewing of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, starring Indiana-native Jimmy Stewart, at the Jimmy Stewart Museum. Viewers also have an opportunity to view the expanded “It’s a Wonderful Life” exhibit, a special Festival of Trees and an all-new Jimmy Stewart mural at the museum.
Lastly, visitors are encouraged to view the 37-foot live Christmas tree, holiday lights and even get a picture in the InFirst Bank holiday sleigh in town.
Downtown Indiana wants to remind all who participate in the festival to abide by current health regulations, and a complete rundown of scheduled events can be found on the festival’s Facebook page and on visitindianacountypa.org.
