Indiana County’s Veterans Treatment Court program reached a milestone with the first graduation ceremony for the program, held yesterday at the Indiana County Courthouse and broadcast through video chat.
The ceremony’s guest speaker was former county commissioner and retired Major General Rodney Ruddock. He said the program was essential as it helped provide guidance to veterans who may have fallen through the cracks.
The program started in 2019 which addresses the growing number of Veterans in the criminal justice system. The program promotes sobriety, recovery and stability through a coordinated response through county judicial officials along with veteran volunteers who serve as mentors and members of the treatment team. Its goal is to help each participant get back on track as a healthy and productive citizen and veteran.
The program is based on the first ever Veterans Treatment Court in Buffalo, New York.
