If you have to be out today for the Thanksgiving Holiday, please be sure that you drive safely, as state police is reminding everyone that patrols have been beefed up for the Thanksgiving Holiday.
Members of Troop A of the state police, which covers most of Indiana and Westmoreland Counties along with all of Cambria and Somerset counties, will be out today through Sunday with patrols focusing on distracted, aggressive and intoxicated drivers with a goal of saving lives and making sure the highways remain safe.
Last year over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, which ran November 27th to December 1st, state police investigated 11 crashes in the Indiana County area. Three people were injured in those crashes. One crash was alcohol-related. There were no reported deaths connected with the crashes from last Thanksgiving.
State police also say that 841 traffic stops were conducted and they made 10 DUI arrests. Troopers issued 771 citations and 204 written warnings. A total of 560 tickets were issued for speeding, 18 were for seat belt violations and one citation was for improper use of a child safety seat.
