WHAT WE FIRST REPORTED
A Homer-Center student was killed in an accident on Route 119 in Homer City Tuesday night.
The accident happened at 5:26 PM on Route 119 south near Mistretta Distributing. Homer City fire department, Citizen’s Ambulance and state police were called to the scene at that time, while Indiana County Coroner Jerry Overman, Jr. arrived several minutes later. Police and fire crews spent several hours investigating the accident. It was reported that the victim was a pedestrian crossing Route 119 when he was hit by a four-door sedan.
The name of the student has not been released yet by either state police or the Indiana County Coroner’s office, and we will not release the name at this time out of respect for the family. We have been told that the student is a senior at Homer-Center High School. High School Principal Jody Rainey said that he would be making contact with the family today and will make arrangements for counseling for the Homer-Center community.
Rainey added that providing the counseling may be difficult as the district is now on Thanksgiving break and will be on remote learning for next week.
