The Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board will meet tonight, and one of the agenda items is the scheduling of a public hearing regarding the possible closure of the Saltsburg Middle High School.
The agenda does not state how the hearing would be conducted- remotely or in-person. It would be held on December 16th and if necessary a second hearing would be held the next day. A separate agenda item authorizes the hiring of attorney Dennis Rafferty as the hearing officer, and of a court reporter to record and create a transcript of the hearings.
Dr. Charles Koren, who was hired in September as the acting superintendent for the district, was also hired last January as the “facilitator” to aid in the discussion of the possible reconfiguration of the district. In February, Koren presented to the board studies showing the effect of falling enrollment numbers and how they would affect the district’s schools.
The school board will also consider tonight the hiring of F. Frank Ayata as the district’s business manager, pending the finalization of his contract and submission of clearances. There are also a number of other personnel items on the agenda, including in the basketball and wrestling programs, and the agenda includes a Memorandum of Understanding with the teacher’s union.
The meeting will be available to the public via a Zoom link at the school district website.
