With twenty active covid-19 cases and twelve positive/probable cases this week alone, the Indiana Area School District has opted to move to fully remote classes district-wide starting on Monday, encompassing the Thanksgiving holiday schedule, and through December 4th.
The decision also includes all athletics and extracurricular activities, which will be shut down today through December 6th. Today was to be the first day of practices for the winter sports.
Superintendent Michael Vuckovich says that the district has been notified of a probable second positive case at Horace Mann Elementary, and six additional students or staff must enter quarantine there.
There’s another positive case at East Pike Elementary, and at the Alpha program at the Community Guidance Center. A food service employee at East Pike has been confirmed positive and several other food service employees are in quarantine as a result. A bus driver tested positive and one student rider is in quarantine.
At the Senior High School, three students and a staff member have tested positive, and although two of the students were not in school during their infectious period, there are others in quarantine. The hockey team had already shut down until December 7th as a precaution.
And at the Junior High School, another positive test has resulted in 11 students, three teachers’ aides, and a teacher must quarantine.
Other schools in Indiana County which have gone temporarily fully remote are the Marion Center High School, Purchase Line Elementary, Blairsville Elementary, Saltsburg Elementary, and both the elementary and high schools at United, which yesterday confirmed another positive test at the high school building.
