Steelers coach Mike Tomlin says the team has to solve its problems in the running game, and they are going back “to the lab” to get that done this week.
The Steelers ran for only 44 yards in Sunday’s win over the Bengals and have run for only 139 yards in their last three games. They’ve averaged only 18 rushing attempts in those three games while Ben Roethlisberger has averaged 40 pass attempts. Tomlin said they will get “back in the lab” this week and try to find some answers.
On the injury front, the team is expecting cornerback Mike Hilton back this week after he suffered a setback in his return from a shoulder injury. Hilton has missed all or parts of the last four games.
Running back Jaylen Samuels has a quad injury and running back/special teamer Trey Edmunds has a tight hamstring. Tomlin said defensive end Chris Wormley’s injured knee is improving.
Tight end Vance McDonald could return this week from coronavirus and rookie guard Kevin Dotson is on the reserve/Covid-19 list. The Steelers are in the NFL’s “intensive protocol” category, meaning all meetings are remote-only, with the team only gathering in-person for practices.
