Blairsville-Saltsburg School District Acting Superintendent Charles Koren yesterday announced that, starting today, the Blairsville Elementary School “will be closed to in-person student instruction effective for one week.”
Koren writes that the decision comes as a result of the district being notified over the weekend of yet another positive Covid-19 case at the elementary school. That brings the current number of cases to two and increases the number of staff and student quarantines to more than 10.
Koren says the closure is a necessary precaution to prevent the spread of illness within the educational community. The other schools in the district will remain open for now. There are no active cases at Saltsburg Elementary, and only one case between the Blairsville and Saltsburg middle/high schools. The district announced on Friday that a student at Saltsburg had tested positive, but that student had not been in school for the past week.
The Indiana Area School District has closed the East Pike Elementary School for the week as well, because of the increase in cases at that building.
