It’s become a familiar story: the Homer Center Wildcats and Bishop Guilfoyle Marauders clash tonight in the District 6 Class A football championship game.
The teams have played for the district title three times in the past eight years, with Homer Center winning in 2013 and 2017 and BG winning in 2016. The last time they played was in the district quarterfinals, with Guilfoyle winning, 42-0 in 2018.
Homer Center coach Greg Page says that for this group of student-athletes in this unusual year, tonight is extra special.
Page says Bishop Guilfoyle is going to be a tough test.
Page says the offense and defense must play mistake-free, but there are other factors that will be keys tonight for the Wildcats.
BG coach Justin Wheeler is very familiar with Wildcats quarterback Ben Schmidt, having played him twice already in past playoffs. He says Schmidt is playing better than ever.
The Homer-Center community is giving the team a sendoff at 3:45 PM. They’ll be led out of town by Homer City Borough Police and the volunteer fire department. Fans are invited to line up on the street between the school and South Main Street to the Borough Building.
Tonight’s game will be heard on WCCS, FM 101.1 and AM 1160 and on the TribLive High School Sports Network. The airtime is 6:15 with Mark Bertig and Ward Hilliard, with the audio link and the Renda Digital TV video link posted on the front page at wccsradio.com.
