State Representative Jim Struzzi has announced a state Department of Education grant of $229,000 for the construction of a new facility for the Burrell Township Library.
The money comes from the Keystone recreation, Park, and Conservation Fund and will also help the library with equipment installation, upgraded security systems, and other needs.
The allocation is part of $5.1 million in grants to eighteen public libraries across the commonwealth.
The current Burrell Township Library is temporarily inside the township building on Park Drive in Black Lick. Last year, the Highridge Water Authority and former supervisor Floyd Hilty donated side-by-side vacant lots on Main Street and Blaire Road for a combination library/township building. The former site of the library, which shared space with the township Sewage Authority, was condemned after a frozen water pipe flooded the building in January of 2018.
