Indiana Area School District superintendent Mike Vuckovich announced Thursday new cases of Covid-19 at East Pike Elementary and in a third party employee, and updated the status of what they called a “probable positive” case in a student.
In a letter posted to the district’s website, Vuckovich announced a new positive case of Covid-19 in a student, but the case is not related to the previous case reported by the district on November 10th. The PA Department of Health is once again working with the school nurse and the administration to identify and communicate with any families that may be affected. That update from East Pike also included an update on a case in a student that had been called a “probable positive”. The student was tested and the test came back negative for Covid-19, so that case was removed from the current case count. That means there are still three total positive cases. Vuckovich recommends that East Pike remains open, as the decision falls within the guidelines of the district safety plan and that the new case was not related to any other cases.
Vuckovich also said that a third party employee at the Junior and Senior High Schools also tested positive for Covid-19, and according to information the district received, that employee did not come into contact or have direct exposure with any staffers. At the current time, only one student from the Junior High needs to go into quarantine.
Vuckovich also encouraged parents to have discussions with their children about the importance of wearing masks, keeping six feet apart from one another and washing their hands frequently, especially with the holiday season coming up soon.
