Penn State star running back Journey Brown announced yesterday that his football career is over after a diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a condition that causes the heart muscle to become abnormally thick.
The redshirt junior learned several months ago that he had a heart issue and coach James Franklin announced before the season started that he was out for the year.
In the final game of his football career, Brown ran for a Cotton Bowl record 202 yards with two touchdowns in the Nittany Lions’ 53-39 win over Memphis. He was considered a potential high draft choice, perhaps as high as the first round, with a solid season this year.
