The Homer Center/Bishop Guilfoyle championship game will be on Friday at 7 PM at Mansion Park in Altoona.
FOOTBALL
District 6 has still not announced whether the Homer Center/Bishop Guilfoyle Class A championship game will be on Friday or Saturday. The game will be at Mansion Park in Altoona. Homer Center bested Juniata Valley, 27-14 on Friday and BG beat Purchase Line, 35-0 on Saturday.
It will be the fourth district title matchup between the Wildcats and Marauders in the last eight years. Homer Center won in 2013 and 2017 and Bishop Guilfoyle won in 2016.
VOLLEYBALL
Heritage Conference champion West Shamokin is also the District 6 volleyball champion after beating West Branch on Saturday in five sets.
The Wolves won the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-16, but the Warriors took the next two, 25-18 and 25-22 before losing the tiebreaker fifth set, 15-9. Maddie McConnell led West Shamokin with 15 kills.
West Shamokin will play District 5 champ Conemaugh Township in the first round of the state tournament at home tomorrow night.
CROSS COUNTRY
At the state cross country championships in Hershey on Saturday, Indiana’s Joel Beckwith won his “wave” and finished fourth overall in Boys Class AA. The racers ran in waves rather than as one group because of pandemic measures.
Beckwith ran the course in 16:50, finishing 38 seconds behind the race winner.
