Coach Mike Tomlin updated the Steelers injury situation yesterday, and while it’s mostly players on the defense who are hurting, their injuries are not season-ending.
Tomlin says nose tackle Tyson Alualu has an ankle sprain and defensive end Cam Heyward has a quad injury. The coach said Heyward is more likely to play Sunday than Aluala. Tomlin says he’s hopeful cornerback Mike Hilton can return this week from his shoulder injury and safety Jordan Dangerfield should be back from his quad injury. Fullback Derek Watt is expected to be a full participant in practice as he continues to come back from a hamstring injury.
The coach says the win over Baltimore showed that the Steelers have a lot of room for improvement.
The Steelers’ rush defense struggled against the Ravens, and Tomlin says the job doesn’t get any easier against the Cowboys’ Ezekiel Elliott.
Asked whether newly-acquired linebacker Avery Williamson will be available on Sunday, Tomlin said he doesn’t know yet.
The Cowboys haven’t announced who will start at quarterback for them on Sunday, but it won’t be Ben DiNucci. The former Pitt and James Madison QB started last week against the Eagles and played poorly in his NFL debut, so the Cowboys will go with either Cooper Rush or Garrett Gilbert against the Steelers. Andy Dalton, who was hoping to return from a concussion, was placed on the reserve/covid-19 list yesterday.
