U.S. Attorney Scott Brady says a record number of cases were prosecuted in the Western District of Pennsylvania in fiscal 2020, and he highlighted seven significant drug investigations that were busted up, including one in Indiana County.
“Operation Copper Beach”, in June, resulted in the indictments of 19 people for their roles in a Philadelphia-to-Indiana County drug trafficking network that distributed methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, and crack cocaine, primarily in Indiana County.
From October of 2019 through September of this year, Brady’s office filed cases against 757 defendants, including 376 for drug offenders and 187 firearms defendants. The total number of defendants prosecuted was 14 percent more than in Fiscal 2019.
Brady says his office has just completed the two most productive years in the history of western Pennsylvania. He credited the men and women who have done their jobs “despite a global pandemic and a grand jury shutdown of two months.”
