Friday was a busy day in Indiana County Court with several sentencing hearings, including one for Charles Cook, who pleaded no contest to five counts of criminal use of a communications facility.
Cook was accused of committing the crimes while he was in Indiana County Jail. Cook allegedly arranged drug deliveries through calls on the jail’s phones to his girlfriend. The no contest plea came eight days after he was found not guilty in the 1991 shooting death of Myrtle McGill. Both cases were prosecuted by the state attorney general’s office.
Cook was sentenced to serve three to seven years in a state correctional institution for each count. Two of the counts will run consecutively, and the remaining three will run concurrent to each other. This means that Cook will serve between six and 14 years in prison for all five counts.
