Week Two of the District 6 high school football playoffs kicks off tonight with two games involving Heritage Conference schools, and there is another one tomorrow night.
On WQMU tonight, top Class A seed Penns Manor meets next-door neighbor Purchase Line, in a rematch of a September 25th game won by the Comets, 23-8. Penns Manor was idle with a bye last week while Purchase Line beat West Shamokin, 57-35. Tonight’s winner plays next week in the semifinals against the winner of Bishop Giulfoyle’s game tomorrow afternoon at Conemaugh Valley.
Penns Manor coach Bill Packer says this is a different Purchase Line team than the one they played last month.
Purchase Line coach Matt Falisec says preparing his defense for the multi-faceted Penns Manor attack is difficult.
On WCCS, the second-seeded Homer Center Wildcats take on a very good Williamsburg team. Homer Center was idle last week while Williamsburg crushed Blairsville, 50-20. The winner will play a semifinal game against the winner of Juniata Valley/Portage, which will be played tomorrow night.
Wildcats coach Greg Page says Williamsburg is a formidable team.
Page says his defense will be tested tonight.
Williamsburg coach Ryan Hileman says he hopes to avoid a shootout tonight.
Hileman says the Blue Pirates need to limit Homer Center to under 30 points.
Both of tonight’s broadcasts get underway at 6:15.
Other non-playoff games involving Heritage Conference teams include West Shamokin at Saltsburg (an internet-only broadcast) and Conemaugh Township at United.
Tomorrow night in WQMU, it’s a Class AA semifinal matchup featuring Cambria Heights visiting Marion Center, with the winner in Mansion Park for the championship game next week against the winner of Richland and top seed Bellwood Antis.
Stingers coach Adam Rising says Cambria Heights plays a lot like Purchase Line.
