Indiana County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate dropped in the month of September.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry announced today that Indiana County’s unemployment rate fell 2.1 percentage points to 7.6 percent in September. Comparing Indiana County to the neighboring counties, Jefferson County tied with Indiana at 7.6 percent, Westmoreland County has a 7.7 percent unemployment rate, Clearfield County has a 7.8 percent rate, Cambria County has an 8.1 percent rate, while Armstrong County’s rate is the highest in the region at 8.7 percent.
The total number of non-farm jobs in Indiana County went up by 2000 in September to 30,900. The Government super sector saw the highest increase in the month, with 1400 jobs added due to the end of summer break at area local schools. Leisure and Hospitality also saw seasonal gains of 500 jobs. All other remaining published super sectors remained unchanged.
