Governor Tom Wolf, in partnership with the PA Department of Health and the Departments of Drug and Alcohol Programs, is encouraging all Pennsylvania residents to take part in the 19th National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day initiative that begins today, Saturday, October 24.
The initiative began in 2010 with the goal of fighting the misuse of prescription drugs by offering convenient ways to dispose of medication that could be labeled as “at risk of abuse and misuse” if left unattended in medicine cabinets.
According to a state press release, approximately 883,000 pounds of prescription medication was turned into 6,300 community drop-off sites across the U.S. in 2019, with Pennsylvania residents turning in 36,880 pounds at 295 locations across the state.
Three drop boxes are located across Indiana, and those looking to participate in the initiative can turn in prescription medication at the following locations:
- Diamond Drug and Medical Supply, 1354 Oakland Ave. – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Indiana Borough Building, 80 N 8th – open 24/7
- IUP Police Office, 850 Maple St. – open 24/7
Additional information on the initiative can be found at dea.gov.
