The United Lions were left without a game to play this Friday when their scheduled opponent, No. 1-ranked Penns Manor, received a bye in the first round of the District 6 1A playoffs.
United took care of that vacancy by scheduling a game with an Inter-County Conference school from Clearfield County. The Lions will travel to Houtzdale Friday night (7 pm) to take on the Moshannon Valley Black Knights.
Moshannon Valley is looking for its first win and have lost 10 in a row going back to last season. The Black Knights are a young group with no senior skill players other than quarterback Michael Kephart, and their seven top tacklers on defense are also underclassmen. In fact, Kephart is one of only four seniors on the squad.
The Lions (1-5) feature running back Hunter Cameron, who leads Heritage Conference rushers with 1,147 yards and has scored 12 touchdowns. United was the only Heritage Conference team not to qualify for a District 6 playoff berth.
