It’s Week Six of the high school football season, and for some teams, it could conceivably be their final game. The District Six playoffs begin next week and some of the teams with weaker records could find themselves with no one to play next week if they do not qualify.
Tonight on WCCS, the Purchase Line Red Dragons visit the Homer Center Wildcats. Purchase Line is looking for its third straight win after starting the year with three straight losses.
Purchase Line has scored 81 points in the last two weeks, and Homer Center coach Greg Page says it’s because they have found some answers on offense.
Red Dragons coach Matt Falisec says defending the high-powered Homer Center attack begins with quarterback Ben Schmidt.
On 92.5 FM U92 tonight, it’s undefeated Penns Manor playing 4-1 Northern Cambria.
Comets coach Bill Packer says playing AT Northern Cambria is always tough.
The Colts lost for the first time last week at Marion Center, and coach Sam Shutty says Penns Manor is at least as tough as the Stingers are.
On Cat Country, 106.3 FM tonight, the Blairsville Bobcats travel to play high-powered West Shamokin.
Wolves’ coach Jon McCullough says his passing attack, led by quarterback Bo Swartz’s 1,263 yards throwing the ball and Owen Stover’s 25 receptions, is getting better week by week.
Bobcats coach Rick Artley says West Shamokin is not just a passing team. In fact, he expects both teams will try to run the ball.
There is one other game in the Heritage Conference tonight: 1-4 United will welcome 4-0 Marion Center. The Saltsburg Trojans were to have played at Bishop Carroll, but the Huskies had to cancel because they ran out of healthy players.
The District 6 rankings this week show Marion Center second in AA and Northern Cambria fifth. Eight teams will make the playoffs, starting next week.
In Class A, Penns Manor is ranked second behind Portage. Homer Center is fourth, West Shamokin seventh, and Purchase Line ninth. Blairsville and Saltsburg are tied for twelfth, but the Trojans already have the win tonight by forfeit, and they defeated the Bobcats earlier this season. United sits ten points out of the final playoff spot, tied with Claysburg-Kimmel and West Branch.
In the WPIAL, 2-3 Indiana is at home tonight against 3-2 Hampton. The game will be heard on FM 100.3/AM 1450 WDAD. Jake Slebodnick has a preview.
