The top picks in the Major League baseball draft have been set, and the Pirates will have the number-one overall pick. They become the fourth team – along with the Padres, Astros, and Mets – to have the number one overall pick five times. The last time they had it, they selected Gerrit Cole out of UCLA.
The consensus number one right now is Vanderbilt starter Kumar Rocker. Others in contention are Miami catcher Adrian Del Castillo, Florida outfielder Jud Fabian, and Vanderbilt starter Jack Leiter.
Rounding out the top five in the draft order are the Rangers, Tigers, Red Sox, and Orioles.
