The Blairsville Underground Railroad Organization along with Blairsville Borough employees have posted some signs to help make learning about the town’s pre-Civil War history more interactive.
The new signs now have QR codes that when scanned by a smartphone will open a web page on the organization’s website, www.undergroundrailroadblairsvillepa.com that corresponds to that location. This is expected to add to the self-guided walking tour that started in 2006 when the group was founded. Organization President and Executive Director Denise Jennings said that they hope it will not only attract more visitors to town, but it will also allow people to visit the sites along the trail at their leisure and in a safe manner.
The Blarisville Underground Railroad organization still offers its center on South East Lane for visits, but that is now open by appointment only.
