The Penguins have signed forward Sam Lafferty to a two-year contract extension. The deal carries a salary cap hit of $750,000 to the team. The 25-year-old Hollidaysburg native scored six goals with seven assists in fifty games as a rookie last year.
NHL unrestricted free agency begins today, with some top name talent available and some Stanley Cup winning goaltenders on the market. Goalies Braden Holtby and Henrik Lundstrom are free agents looking for a team as are defenseman Alex Pietrangelo and forwards Taylor Hall, Mike Hoffman, and Evgenii Dadonov.
The Penguins only have about $3.4 million of salary cap margin to sing free agents. Ottawa ($42 million), Buffalo ($32 million), and New Jersey ($30 million) have the most money to spend.
