The Steelers say they will do a random drawing from their season-ticket holders to allow 5,500 fans at Heinz Field on Sunday when they play the Eagles. The governor’s announcement yesterday of eased spectator limits includes everybody in the stadium…players, coaches, staff, and all game-day workers. While 7,500 people would be allowable based on 15 percent of the stadium’s capacity, the Steelers settled on 5,500.
Pitt’s next game at Heinz Field is October 24th against Notre Dame. Athletic Director heather Lyke issued a statement saying, “After we receive additional consultation from Allegheny County and university officials, we will look forward to communicating our attendance plans for Pitt football at Heinz Field very soon.”
The Steelers’ injury report no longer includes wide receiver Diontae Johnson, who has returned after being in concussion protocol and will be a full participant in practice today. Fullback Derek Watt has begun a running program as he tries to come back from a hamstring injury and safety Marcus Allen has run in a pool, and is expected to try running on the field as he battles plantar fasciitis.
While the Steelers are relatively healthy, the Eagles are hard-hit by injuries along the offensive line and wide receiver. They played last week without their two starting cornerbacks and lost a linebacker and safety to hamstring injuries.
