At its agenda prep meeting Tuesday night, Indiana Borough Council approved a resolution concerning 2020 Community Development Block Grant funding.
The borough will use the $197,249 in 2020 CDBG money for the replacement and improvement of the Phase II section of the South 15th Street storm sewer system and conduct a flow monitoring of the Marsh Run area sewer interceptor and storm water systems. As part of that resolution, the borough formally approved the three-year community-wide needs priorities. Along with the two projects approved for the CDBG funding, that list includes:
- conducting storm and sanitary sewer line replacements as identified in the Borough’s corrective action plan
- conduct activities to assist with flood control and storm water management in the Borough that would threaten public safety and cause property damage
- identifying properties in the Marsh Run floodplain for potential acquisition, demolition and clearance
In other business, council members heard from several bar and restaurant owners in the borough who were against the transfer of another liquor license into town. On the borough’s agenda, the license that would be transferred in from West Wheatfield Township would have been for a property at 400 Philadelphia Street, which is for the Choice gas station. Borough Manager Michael Foote said as a housekeeping note during the meeting that the address listed on the agenda was incorrect. The address should have read 626 Philadelphia Street, which would put it at the Casa Jalisco Restorante.
We talked with Heather Oliver of Casa Jalisco and she said that they are in the process of obtaining the license from the former Off The Rocks, which was the property’s former tenant.
Foote now says that someone had given him some inaccurate information concerning the liquor license transfers and confirmed that the address on the agenda, 400 Philadelphia Street, was correct.
The license transfer is expected to be voted on in two weeks at the next Indiana Borough Council meeting.
The borough also approved, per the proclamation of Mayor George Hood, that trick or treating will take place in Indiana Borough on October 31st from 6-8 PM.
