The Pirates yesterday claimed right-handed reliever Sean Poppen off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. Poppen made six appearances for the Twins this year, with a 4.70 ERA in seven and-two-thirds innings.
Poppen was added to the 40-man roster and utility man JT Riddle was designated for assignment.
